Tea bombs – tea balls for brewing
( number of products: 9 )Tea bombs are more than just tea. These small, eye-catching spheres turn brewing into a real spectacle the moment they’re dropped into hot water. Inside, you’ll find carefully selected blends of tea, dried fruits, flowers, and aromatic additions, all sealed in a clear, delicately sweet isomalt shell.
What are tea bombs and how do they work?
Tea bombs are fully functional brewing compositions that combine aesthetics with convenience. One ball is all you need to prepare a fragrant infusion in moments—no measuring, no extra accessories.
Tea balls – tea and a WOW effect in your cup
Tea balls are ready-made blends enclosed in a transparent isomalt shell. In the MateMundo range, you’ll find tea bombs by Mary Rose, available in several flavour variants and two sizes: large (40 g, approx. 6.5 cm diameter) and mini (15 g, approx. 3 cm).
Depending on the variant, inside you may find:
- black or green tea
- dried and freeze-dried fruits (e.g. mango, raspberry, strawberry)
- flowers (rose, cornflower, sunflower, butterfly pea flower)
- spices and carefully selected flavourings
When placed in a teapot, the ball slowly dissolves, releasing colourful ingredients. The infusion gradually changes colour, while fruits and flower petals begin to dance freely in the water. This is the moment that makes tea bombs impressive not only in taste, but also in appearance.
Isomalt tea balls – how do they dissolve in hot water?
The secret behind their visual effect is the isomalt shell. These tea balls are made from a sweetener with a very low glycaemic index (approx. 2). Isomalt gives the infusion a gentle, subtle sweetness without overpowering the flavour of tea and fruit.
Under the influence of hot water, the shell begins to dissolve, revealing what’s inside. Once the isomalt disappears, the tea and ingredients can fully infuse, releasing their aroma, colour, and flavour.
Types of tea bombs – which tea balls should you choose?
In our shop, you’ll find tea bombs with a wide range of flavour profiles—from classic black tea blends, through fresh green sencha, to intensely fruity compositions without traditional tea leaves. Each one tells a different story of taste and aroma, enclosed in a striking sphere.
How to prepare tea bombs?
Although tea bombs look spectacular, they’re incredibly easy to prepare. You don’t need an infuser, strainer, or any additional tools—just a cup or teapot and hot water. The magic happens on its own.
Follow these simple steps to brew your tea balls perfectly:
- Prepare a vessel and pour in hot water – a transparent teapot or a larger cup works best.
- Place the ball in hot water – gently drop the tea bomb into the vessel.
- Do not stir – let the isomalt shell dissolve naturally.
- Wait 5–10 minutes – the ball will fully open, releasing flavour, colour, and aroma.
Once brewed, you can gently stir the infusion only after the ball has completely dissolved. Tea balls are portioned so that one bomb is perfect for one large cup or a small teapot—no measuring needed.
How much water and what temperature for tea balls?
The amount of water depends on the size:
- mini (15 g, approx. 3 cm) – about 250–300 ml of water
- large (40 g, approx. 6.5 cm) – about 500–600 ml (small teapot)
Water temperature should match the type of tea inside:
- approx. 95°C – for black tea and fruit blends
- approx. 75–85°C – for green tea (sencha-based) variants
