Mary Rose Blue Matcha Alternative – powdered banana in a sky-blue colour 💙
Do you love banana smoothies but fancy a drink that will also surprise you with its looks? Mary Rose – Blue Matcha Alternative – Banana, which is powdered banana with blue spirulina for preparing matcha-style drinks, combines the two. The base of the product is freeze-dried banana, which makes up over 90% of the ingredients and gives the drink the gentle, naturally sweet flavour of ripe fruit. The sky-blue colour comes from blue spirulina – a natural colouring. The result? A creamy banana drink the colour of a tropical lagoon.
What makes Mary Rose Blue Matcha Alternative – Banana stand out?
- ✅ Short ingredient list: freeze-dried banana, blue spirulina extract and bamboo fibre – with no added sugars or flavourings.
- ✅ Versatility: an interesting alternative to classic matcha tea, as well as a handy addition to desserts, smoothies and breakfasts.
- ✅ Unique colour: it gives milk, yoghurts and smoothies a beautiful sky-blue hue.
- ✅ Caffeine-free alternative: unlike classic green matcha, it contains no caffeine, so you can enjoy it at any time of the day.
With this powder, you can make a blue latte, hot or iced, but that is just one of the options. Blue matcha with banana also works well as a natural colouring addition to a smoothie bowl, porridge, yoghurt, a protein shake or a cream for no-bake desserts. The banana flavour pairs well with cocoa, vanilla, coconut and fruit, so you can easily fit it into your favourite recipes.
What is Blue Matcha Alternative with banana? 🍌
The name may suggest green tea, but you will not find a single tea leaf in the ingredients. The word "matcha" refers to the form and method of preparation: the fine powder is added to a cup, topped up with liquid and frothed with a chasen whisk or a frother – just as with Japanese matcha. The difference lies in the flavour and the effect. Instead of a slightly bitter, grassy note and caffeine, you get a sweetish, caffeine-free banana drink.
The banana used in the product has been freeze-dried, which means it has been frozen and its water removed under vacuum. This method preserves the natural flavour and aroma of the fruit, and once ground, it produces a light, free-flowing powder that blends easily with milk. All the sweetness of the product comes from the sugars naturally present in banana.
Blue spirulina is sensitive to high temperatures, so you will get the most intense colour in drinks prepared with cold or warm milk and in desserts that do not go into the oven.

How to prepare a drink with Mary Rose Blue Matcha Alternative – Banana? ☕
Preparing the blue drink is similar to preparing classic matcha – all you need is the powder, a liquid and something to froth it with. The whole thing takes less than two minutes.
- Put 2 small teaspoons (approx. 5.6g) of Mary Rose Blue Matcha Alternative – Banana powder into a mug or bowl.
- Add 100ml of cold or warm milk or a plant-based drink, e.g. oat, soya or coconut.
- Mix everything thoroughly with a milk frother or a bamboo chasen whisk until the powder is fully combined and a light foam forms on the surface. Sediment at the bottom is a natural phenomenon.
If you prefer a milder version, add more milk and make a blue banana latte in a large mug. On hot days, serve the drink over ice, and if you like sweeter flavours, sweeten it to taste with vanilla syrup, maple syrup or honey.
Recipe for an impressive, three-colour Blue Banana Matcha Latte 💙💚
Would you like to make a drink at home that looks as if it came straight off a café menu? Combine classic green matcha with the blue banana powder and white milk foam. The result is a three-colour latte inspired by the popular Banana Matcha Latte.
Ingredients needed:
- 1 teaspoon of classic green matcha and approx. 40ml of warm water (approx. 80°C)
- 2 small teaspoons of Mary Rose Blue Matcha Alternative – Banana
- approx. 150ml of cold milk or a plant-based drink + approx. 50ml of milk for frothing
- ice cubes
- optional: vanilla syrup
Preparation instructions:
- In a bowl or cup, froth the green matcha with warm water using a chasen whisk or a frother.
- In a separate container, froth 150ml of cold milk with the blue banana powder (and syrup, if using) until the colour is even.
- Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the blue milk.
- Slowly pour the green matcha on top so that it forms a second layer.
- Froth the remaining 50ml of milk into a thick foam and gently spoon it on the very top.
💡 Tip: To keep the layers from mixing, pour the matcha very slowly over the back of a spoon or down the inside of the glass. Well-chilled milk at the bottom also helps.
Enjoy experimenting with flavours? Add a pinch of vanilla or a splash of coconut milk to the blue milk, and sprinkle the foam with desiccated coconut. The finished drink looks great in a clear glass, so it is worth taking a photo before it disappears!
